Law in Australia today

Laws are often seen as reflections of the societies that make them. Therefore, in a diverse society such as Australia there is going to be debate about the nature and appropriateness of our laws. In recent years we have seen debate on a range of legal issues, such as:

• mandatory sentencing
• abortion
• euthanasia
• the legislation of some drugs
• anti-terror laws
• whether sentencing by some judges is harsh enough

YOUR TASKS

1. You are to copy the above passage into your books!
2. Read the document attached --> "Media file/report. You are to source current (2000 +) articles relating to Australian law and its implementation. For each article you source, complete questions 1-4 into your books.
3. You should have at least FOUR articles by the end of the lesson!
